Change in Procalcitonin Calculator
(Mortality Risk Prognosis)

Change in Procalcitonin (ΔPCT) Calculator for predicting mortality in patients diagnosed with severe sepsis or septic shock. This calculator has been validated only for changes in PCT from the day severe sepsis or septic shock was diagnosed (Day 0) or the day thereafter (Day 1) to the fourth day (Day 4) after diagnosis. See instructions below for calculator use.

PCTDay 01  {{pct.day0_adj.val}}    PCTDay 4 {{pct.day4_adj.val}}  × 100
PCTDay 01  {{pct.day0_adj.val}}
Day 4 PCT INCREASED
ΔPCT = {{pct.delta_pct}}%
> 80% decline? {{pct.delta_class}}
* NOTES about your results: The dates you entered correspond to a Day 01 and Day 4 measurement. Please confirm that this is correct. Please note that the ΔPCT was rounded down to exactly 80.0% from a value that was slightly greater than 80.0%. The ΔPCT Calculator requires values with two decimal points of precision. The PCT value you entered for Day 01 ({{pct.day0_value}}) was {{pct.day0_adj.adjustment}} to '{{pct.day0_adj.val}}'. The PCT value you entered for Day 4 ({{pct.day4_value}}) was {{pct.day4_adj.adjustment}} to '{{pct.day4_adj.val}}'. Please confirm that these adjustments are appropriate.

* These results were obtained in a multicenter study of 858 patients with severe sepsis or septic shock admitted for ICU care in which PCT values were measured on Days 0, 1, and 4. Overall 28-day mortality for this study was 22%. Predictive values may differ significantly at other institutions and PCT assay results should not be the sole basis for assessing mortality risk. Changes in PCT should always be interpreted in the context of the clinical status of the patient and other laboratory results. Only B·R·A·H·M·S PCT sensitive KRYPTOR® clinical study results are displayed. See appropriate manufacturer’s package insert for specific clinical performance data for other manufacturer platforms.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Enter PCT values (in µg/L or ng/mL, which are equivalent), including all available digits
  2. * If no Day 0 value is available, enter Day 1 value in its place
  3. If more than one PCT value is available on Day 0 (or Day 1), enter the highest value
  4. If more than one PCT value is available on Day 4, enter the most recent value
  5. Select the dates of sample collection for the entered PCT values in the pop up calendar
  6. Indicate if patient received ICU Care on Day 4 (Yes or No)
